Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) Food Trail 2012 - Singapore Zoo

Two weeks ago, I was delighted to be invited by the Wildlife Reserves Singapore to join their Food Trail 2012 which is organised in conjunction with the Singapore Food Festival. It is a full day event from 9am - 8pm where invited media, bloggers and lucky members of the public are being hosted in the various wild dining experiences at their parks, including popular programmes such as Jungle Breakfast with Wildlife and Lunch with Parrots (upcoming post).

Furthermore in the evening we were also being brought behind-the-scenes for an exclusive kitchen tour at Night Safari’s Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant (upcoming post) together with the company of Chef Kelvin Low.

Our day programme started with "Jungle Breakfast with Wildlife" at Ah Meng Restaurant which Celes (CelestialDelish), Shi Ting (Lobsterpaints), Rey and I were excited about it since the day we read about the programme highlights.

Interior Setting of the Restaurant

The morning crowds at the Ah Meng Restaurant on Saturday morning

At the buffet line, there were both western-style and local morning delights such as fried bee hoon, prata, curry, rice, dim sum and etc.

There was also a special "Egg Station" where omelettes were cooked on the spot base on individual preference.

We started off with some western french toast, baked bean, sausage and etc and enjoyed it while watching the Orang Utan family.

Additional Toast, Muffins and Ham

Some favourite local dim sum with steamed bun, siew mai and dumplings

Other than Orang Utan, we also have some other cute jungle friends to accompany us for breakfast too!

After a hearty and excited breakfast, we moved on to the Fragile Forest for some behind-the-scenes activities.

After a few minutes of ride, we stepped into a 20,000 cubic metre flight area man-made rainforest which showcase various stratas of a rainforest.

At the rainforest, you could spot butterflies, lemurs, crowned pigeons, iguanas and mousedeer where they are able to co-exist in this breathtaking ecosystem.

The most interesting part of that morning programme was to be able to go behind-the-scenes tour at Fragile Forest. Everyone was so excited when our Guide, Julia bought us to the insect breeding complex of Fragile Forest.

For your information, this type of VIP behind-the-scenes tour can be arrange via Wild Discovery Tour and you can read up more details at their website HERE.

We were also able to touch and feel most of the insect during the behind-scenes tour.

After the behind-scenes tour, we headed to the Dock 2 for a boat rides back to the Dock 1 where we were going for our Lunch with Parrot at the Singapore Jurong Bird Park (upcoming post).

On board the ride, the guide was telling us that as we cruise along the coast, if we were lucky we might spot animals such as monitor lizards, crocodile or even the white-bellied sea eagles. But sad to say, we did not see managed to spot any.

The fees for the unlimited boat ride is S$6.00/Adult; S$3.50/Child (3 - 12 years old)
